Thread: Debit Cards & Spam.

    Default Debit Cards & Spam.

I wonder if this has happened to anybody else?

I lost my Debit Card on Wednesday & reported it missing.
I'd better not mention the well-known bank.

Starting Thursday, I got about a dozen spam messages referring to my loan application (which I hadn't applied for).
And I've had about a dozen more on Friday & today.

What's even more puzzling, it's my email account with my nickname that's being used, not the one that uses my real name.

I've had some strange spam before, but never anything to do with loans.
My bank does know my telephone number, but I don't use Internet banking.

    No, I never do reply.
It's just the sheer coincidence, and my bank does know my telephone number.

    it's all quite scary though.
Ever since 2 friends of mine had their cards cloned last xmas (we think it was at the cash tills outside asda on smithdown road), I am even weary of using cash points that are not linked to a bank, or inside a bank.

Some *******s cloned my Barclaycard and had a £1000 spree in Malaysia on Thursday, including a £500 cash withdrawl. It got picked up by Barclays immediately as I'd used it here a few hours earlier, so I wont get the shock of the bill. It was still embarrassing when my card got rejected in a restaurant yesterday lunchtime though and I have to wait now for anoher card to arrive. I only use it for buying petrol, in Tescos, online plane/train tickets or footy tickets. My suspicions rest with a petrol station.

There was a program, think it was Trevor McDonald, about this and it seems
that petrol stations are the worst offenders as the card machines have been
played with. It would be better if the machines had an inbuilt device that
destroyed the processor if it was opened up without an engineers number
    being entered

Nearly everyone who uses the internet gets these loan and confirm your
bank details spam mails., Banks, ebay and Paypal etc never as for these
details by email, so just setup filters to delete mail from them. I use a
program called Spaminialator, it is free and lets you setup things to zap spam

Just an update on my first post.
To say that I'm still getting about 6 to 12 every day.
In my "nickname" account, which I was hoping was secret.

Download a freeware prog called spaminhialator. You can then set it up so that it will zap things you don't wan't either before you download the message
or at your end so it ends up in the recycle bin

Thanks Steve, but I've got GoogleMail which sends them straight to Spam.

If anybody wants a Googlemail account, pm me, as I've got plenty of invites left.
