The ECHO revealed yesterday that judge Simon Cowell was offering the Liverpool crooner a deal after being impressed with the way he handled losing Saturday's final.
Now the teenage former Brookside actor is set to go to Los Angeles to record a swing album, in a studio once used by Frank Sinatra.
But his mother Val said she did not know anything about his deal yet.
The hospital cleaner said: "Even though he didn't win the final he's still a winner in my eyes.
"The fact he's been given this record deal is news to me - but mums and dads are always the last to know.
"Tonight, Ray is going to the end-of-show party and will just be relaxing and enjoying himself. "He's been absolutely marvellous and he deserves it."
The 18-year-old from Childwall was beaten by former pizza waitress Leona Lewis, 21, in Saturday night's live final.
But after the show Cowell said: "His reaction was amazing. After what he did for Leona, I didn't want him to go home miserable.
"We're sending him to LA to record a swing album in the same place Frank Sinatra used."
William Hill said they were offering odds of 5/2 for Ray to have more hit singles released next year than Leona. DEAL: Ray Quinn
