    > Looks like the Childwall Fiveways is on course to re-open any day now. That's if it hasn't already re-opened in the last week or so. The Fiveways is now part of the J.D Wetherspoon chain, as is the Merton in Bootle.

    Ah the Prince Arthur.

The Liverpool Branch of the British Motorcycle Riders Club met in there for a while, long since disbanded I'm talking 1980's of course.

When working till 9pm, I used to have to get the bus along Walton Road/ County Road. Anyhow whilst on the bus, you could see into these pubs from on top of the bus. These pubs were virtually empty midweek. I mean, maybe 1 or 2 people in the bars. I used to think how do these pubs manage to survive. It must not be very cost effective. No wonder so many local pubs are shutting down.

Sad to see such nice pubs going by the wayside.. They are lovely architecturally, I wish I could restore one.. That Shipperies.. would make a nice looking home too... Any new pubs abut?

Had a few pints in there in the '80 to 85,most sunday afternoons.Went in after it was 'done up',late 80s,didn't like it.It had lost the 'my local' feeling.

The Merebank is open again which is good.

As for new pubs naked lilac, plenty open up and change names but all in the city centre and mainly around Concert Square, clubby types. The old local on the corner type pub is fast becoming a thing of the past as more and more become empty or change use.

The pubs that have closed in Birkenhead beggars belief.

From the Blazing Stump to the Golden Pagoda. That was Bibby Line's route from the West Float to Rangoon, Burma. My old buddy here was a purser with them, and can't shut up about it.
