    Default Simon O'Brien

    Simon O'Brien born 19 June 1965, Garston

He came to prominence as the character Damon Grant in Brookside, a role he played from 1982 until 1987.

His character was killed off at the end of Damon and Debbie, a 'soap bubble' to Brookside.

He presented the UK version of Fraggle Rock from 1987 until 1988.

In the 1990s, after a spell presenting BBC football show Standing Room Only, he left show business and became a property developer. He has since returned to acting and presenting, with a shortlived football quizshow on ITV Digital and has played caretaker Wally Scott in Grange Hill since 2003.

He is an Everton FC fan and, in the past, has been the club's Public Address announcer.

He is presenting BBC Radio Merseyside's Breakfast show and previously owned a cycle shop in town.

He lived with his family in Howard Drive, Grassendale.
The shop was in Berry Street.
Most of that block was "tarted up" a few years ago, and for a short while the original names of the occupants were on show (W. Watson, Llewelyns, etc).
    In beautiful condition.
    I took a few snaps.
It shouldn't be too difficult to dig them out.

PRESENTER Simon O’Brien has resigned from Radio Merseyside hours after letting slip a string of expletives on air.

The station apologised to listeners after the slip-up which happened during this morning’s breakfast programme co-presented by O’Brien.

Radio Merseyside boss Mick Ord described the blunder as an ‘unacceptable lapse’ and ordered an investigation into how it had been allowed to happen.

But at lunchtime today 42-year-old O’Brien announced he was stepping down “with immediate effect” and apologised for any offence. continues...

I'm very sorry to hear that he's resigned.
Simon O'Brien has done well after his Brookside career finished. It's a shame about that slip up and that he feels he has to step down from Radio Merseyside.
Pity he couldn't reconsider. Worse things happen at sea as they say !
Depends how bad the swearing sounded. There is far worse to be heard on tv I'm sure. Mind you, because Simon O'Brien is broadcast early morning it makes a difference.

It was absolutely disgusting. At the very least I would like an explanation. There was an apology on air, but they seemed to gloss over it without saying what went wrong.
    - Listener Robert Briscoe from Wallasey.

Shock, It must have been awful for him, shurrup .

Mr O'Brien gets my support. An apology would have done, he didn't need to resign.

Not really bothered what he said. think it is stupid for someone to have to go because of that, especially when you hear what is said and shown on the television on BBC. They can't even use the time as an excuse because how many kids are listening to the Radio Merseyside breakfast shoiw at 6.30 in the morning??

Having said that, as much as I love to see a fellow Blue in the media, I am not a fan of him as a radio presenter and dont think he is cut out for it. Much prefered Lee Benyon and Clare Hamilton or Andy Ball. Simon O'Brien IMHO seemed to struggle and take himself and everything else far too seriously. Maybe now he can concentrate on the tele and acting which is what he is good at

Chris, Ged, I,m inclined to go along with what you,ve both said.

I liked his acting but when he went over to presenting, thought that he was a bit out of his depth as a natural. Which to me is a bit contrary as they are similar in direction.

BUT I hope he goes on to do more good things in the acting world.
