    Default Liverpool 700th Birthday - 1907

As mentioned here, I was lucky to have watched an old archive film showing Liverpool and how it celebrated the 700th birthday since King John signed the charter.

A huge pageant took place which reminded me of the opening ceremony at the Olympics, albeit in black and white and silent. The footage of the Liverpool Castle battle was amazing!

The daily post one is a different film I think. The one I saw was just about the birthday celebrations. I saw it in work, it was presented to us as part of the preps for 2007/08. We were extremely lucky to see it.

Thank you, Kev! Very interesting! My mother was a sweet pea in a pageant of Liverpool school children at the time of the opening of Mersey Tunnel with King George and Queen Mary in 1934 . . . there should be books or films about that too.

1715 it was completely demolished. The castle you can see in the background was a mockup.

Yes, I've heard the older generation talking about this event. Some of them took part as 'flowers' - different types and colours.
