    Default Red 'idents'....Good riddance

One of the most irritating things on BBC TV, for me, are those nonsensical 'Red Idents'... guaranteed to raise my already high blood pressure to bursting point. Introduced in March 2002 at a reputed cost of £700,000 it looks like they're going to get the old heave-ho.

LONDON – BBC One is looking to replace its idents, which include basketball players in wheelchairs and martial arts fighters, as part of a plan to rebrand the channel across all its platforms by next year.

The 10-second idents, which include Bollywood dancers, salsa dancers and martial arts experts dressed in red, were looking tired and outdated, Peter Fincham, the new controller for BBC One, said at the Edinburgh International TV Festival.

Yes - me. I'll be glad to see them go too. The BBC spends millions and millions on of licence payers money on things like this. My complaint with the BBC is that they have focussed too much on groups of a 'limited' audience for too many years. They are 'try hards' at the BBC. Don't get me started on The Bollywood fascination either that has been all the rage recently .

Look at all the radio stations they set up over the last 2 years or so. I wouldnt listen to any of them.

    Default Beeb, Beeb - Taxi!

This'll raise your blood pressure a little more, Kev. Reported in today's Daily Mail....

The BBC spent an astonishing £11.8MILLION in taxi fares last year despite a promise to cut costs. Last night there were claims that executives had been using cabs to collect their shopping and run other personal errands.

Figures released yesterday showed the corporation ran up a bill of £32,000 a day for taxis in 2004 - up 3.5% on the £11.4million spent the previous year.

That's the equivalent of 93,000 licence fees - or £453 worth of cab rides for every one of the BBC's 26.000 staff.

    Calm down now, Calm down.

Yes, those 'red idents' or whatever they are called have had their day now ... I'm sick of the sight of them !! Particularly the wheelchair ones and the girls dancing in 'boxercise' style .. very irritating !!
The Bollywood dancers I don't mind so much, but we've seen it to death now!
The thing that is irritating me at the moment is airline company BMI Baby sponsoring on Granada tv ... 1920's/30's flapper style music .. I think it comes on with the weather reports after the local news .. it's so repetitive and that pesky little tune is so annoying !

I just read the original post on this and it says that they may go by next year.
I think they were good when they first started, but we've got sick of seeing them night after night now. They've had a good run and I think it's time for a change.

I don't mind the Bollywood (although you are sick of Bollywood Kev! )
The Salsa dancing is ok too. But as I say, we are getting a bit fed up with them now.
