Same debate though the world over. Does this stuff date badly? Does it ruin what we've got? Should we really do anything too progressive so near the city centre? Same debate.....

Personally I think they both look sensational, the St.P one's just amazing.
As ok as our new stuff is it's been a 40 years (and counting) wait since we had the guts to build anything approaching 'iconic.' Too long.
As wonderful as our buildings are we've arguably never really reached 'world-wide' iconic in our history...
Let's hope some decent new proposals are waiting to be launched after Xmas...
Only major financial cities such as New York, London, Shanghai etc get alot of iconic buildings. Other cities wil get a few but nowhere near as many as the major cities. Yes paris is getting some, but what about all the other cities in France, they wont get any and Paris is one of very few cities in France to fully embrace modern architecture, unlike the UK where most cities do embrace it.
