Great pics My dad worked there as a fitter i remember him taking us to a launch of one of the nuclear subs in the early sixties cant remember the name of it. we were allowed right down by the blocks it sat on then had to go up so that they could let water in to float a few days later we wen back to see the launch. Memory is not good enough to recall any detail

Hi, Loved the pictures. This site has lots of good stuff. My 2x great grandfather Otto Pedersen worked as a rigger at Cammell Lairds back in 1909! Its in his naturalisation papers. Love Flower

Very fine, Joe. I was in the Priory years ago but didn't know about the staircase with the names of the crew of HMS Thetis tragically lost in Liverpool Bay in the summer 1939 while on sea trials. Moving to see that.

    Thanks

    Hi Joe

Fine photographs once again. I consider Birkenhead Priory to be one of the hidden gems of Merseyside. In addition to fond memories that I have of visiting the priory when I was a boy, I remember going on a school trip to tour Cammel Lairds.

One other thing about Cammel Lairds. A correspondent has heard that Jack the Ripper suspect Frederick Bailey Deeming, born in Birkenhead, may have worked in the shipyard. Does anyone know if the records of the shipyard are available to the public, and whether it might be possible to trace Deeming's employment there if indeed he was employed at Cammel Lairds?
