    Default Band Stand

    Hello would anyone know if there was ever a permanent band stand in Williamson Square if there was what year was it because I cant remember but my mother in law says there was one there Cheers Ged

    Had a look through some books containing old Liverpool photos and can't find a bandstand. I do recall the MPTE band playing there in the 1970s, but they set chairs up for those concerts.

    I remember bands playing there too, and I recall the chairs.

    I don't know for sure, but I've never come across any pictures or heard of any mention of this.

    There was the round cold storage building. Is that what you're thinking of.

    There used to be a taxi shelter opposite the Playhouse, also an undergrand Gents toilet, which had circular railings around it.
    It could have been one of these that may have coursed the confusion.

    That's the one, I think the word "ICE" was on it's sign....:^) It was essentially in the middle of the square, right...

    The Union Cold Storage company was in the square till about 1970. I remember standing on the balcony of the new(ish) St.John's precinct,watching it being demolished,in my dinner break! It was formerly a theatre theatre,details of which I can't find right now!!???

    I think it was originally the Theatre Royal.

    Yeh,that's right,quite an old theatre,too,knocked down for that stupid walkway,etc, which is well gone!!!

    but not a permanent band stand though ?? you mean bands just playing on occsions ?
