No 'shake's in Auckland Steve! Christchurch folk are getting a bit 'fed-up' with it though! It would make sense if they re-built the city in another location in my opinion! and get off that 'faultline!!!

The shops, cinema, hotel compex in New Brighton is nearly finished. Took the wife to see it today, her opinion, "I won`t be visiting here anymore"
Don't blame her! - Utterly hideous in my opinion!... And what about the casino? - It seems they're keeping quiet about that!

My memories of New Brighton was.....

How the ruddy hell are we going to get home now that we spent the ferry fare on the one arm bandits and lost.

Sorry Kevin just a personal question? with them beating all the religious tendencies out of you, that age you wouldn't of thought of sex otherwise they would have said that's bad for you

    What wonderful photos!
I too have happy memories of New Brighton in the 50's and 60's, what always sticks in my mind is the freezing water in the outdoor pool but I can remember the wall of death as my dad was a motor cyclist and we used to watch them whizzing round and round getting higher and higher. It gradually became more run down but once the pier went it was the beginning of the end.
They are now trying to bring it into the 21st century but the soul has gone, it is such a shame to see all the shops replaced by houses and all the B&B's have well gone. I see the new Travelodge has opened on the site of the old baths, I wonder when was the last time New Brighton had a new hotel?
