Bladdy hell, you've lost me but I believe you 100% ha ha.

The writing around the perimeter of the lens says 3xf=5 7-17.1mm 1.2 9 5 2 (it's very small, it appears to say that)

Thanks for that. I remember my green flash lasting longer than my somewhat more expensive gansgear mitre memphis. It's good you know what you're talking about.

Wow Joe. Another fine photographer in the making. It takes a good photography mind just to think of capturing that.

My camera is a Panasonic Lumix with a Lieca lens about 6 years old now ,I also have a Canon
S L R with a 70/300 mm lens and a 50 mm lens, but 95 percent of my pics are with the Lumix.
My son has downloaded some software to use with my grandaughter`s Canon enabling her to take very long exposures or very fast shutter speeds. Here`s one of her night shots
    a level crossing.

Is the original photo that smooth and soft looking Joe..?
there seems to have been a noise reduction programme used on the photo to get rid of any grain..(noise..)
    Hi Gerard,

The software I downloaded is actually a firmware replacement for the camera. It over-rides the Canon menu system and opens up other option which Canon have blocked on their cheaper models - the A480 camera she has a good Image Processor but has the full range of options blocked off to enable Canon to sell a range of cameras at a range of prices whilst ensuring maximum efficiency for their stock requirements.

Basically she can set ISO down to ISO10 which obviously removes a lot of the noise normally associated with higher ISOs at night. She can shoot from 1/2000s to 1hr4mins shutter speeds and all sorts of other little improvements like adjust the flash intensity. We've also downloaded scripts to run on there which allow her to leave the camera running taking multiple shots for hours at a time (ideal for star trails etc.....)

You could say she's getting tremedous value from what should be a budget camera, it's also providing her with good knowledge for her move to a better camera .....hint hint dad.

Also the level crossing image is actually 3 images stacked.

    Hiya Scouse Greg..

You'll notice I've deleted all what was intended as advise to Ged about photo technique etc...as Ged mentioned photo technicalities..
I never put any of that on to get involved in any debate over a little girls photos...

The litte girl, is she your daughter ?
She is very talented..you must be very proud..

I wish her all the very best of luck...
Can I leave it at that if thats OK with you..?
    and you Joe..

    Thanks..

The granduaghter lives in Wales so I don`t see her her often. I don`t know how the software works in the camera but she tells me she is able to take exposures of up to 4 hours. Her favourite thing at the moment is taking star trails at night camera on a tripod in the garden with very long exposures.
    No problem Joe

    best of luck mate...

Yeah she is indeed my daughter and I am very proud of her.

I never took any offence at your post to be fair. I think the way my dad explained it was a bit ambiguous and makes it sound like some software on a PC.....no need to have deleted your comments

Smurf : http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK will tell you all you need to know about the Canon Hack.

    Gerard,

Your son has certainly achieved a hell of a lot of success, fair play to him. I don't think you realise how proud you can be of another persons achievements until you become a parent.
