    Default Fifty-Three Christmases Ago (CTG)

    Fifty-Three Christmases Ago

I'm sitting on the couch in a plaid shirt,
little English boy, fresh to the US of A.

At last I'm taller than the tree,
which sparkles in the B&W snap.

The photo's blurry: Dad took a time
    exposure using his box camera.

    A black landline telephone sits
    behind. The television's switched off.

It's only black and white TV anyway,
with just the main network channels.

How did we exist with no color, no cable,
no DVD, no BlueRay, no GameBoy?

Nice one Chris. Some of us do manage without all that stuff. We got it, but I never watch telly or play games.

Thanks, Pabs. I really think that the way we lived back then shows we don't need all the stuff folk have these days. As is often remarked, times were simpler and people were happier.

True. I got rid of me mobile phone a couple of months ago and I don't miss it at all. It's great.

Some of my most magical Christmas memories happened in those years when I got cardboard box containing a "compedium of games", an orange,a jar of boiled sweets and a Cadbury's slection box.

I loved Christmas when I was a kid. Ready for bed before the light outside even went. Being unable to sleep with excitement. Being up at around 4pm and eating chocolate. Loved my colouring book and crayons (which I got every year) crayons, games, dolls etc.

Anyhows I've just put outside my sparkle reindeer food so they can guide the sleigh right to my house.

I loved your picture by the way Chris.

Just met a friend who looked very bearly eyed.
His four year old daughter had them up all LAST night as she kept hearing Santa coming.
She was sleeping in his arms when we were talking to him.
