Fifty-Three Christmases Ago
I'm sitting on the couch in a plaid shirt,
little English boy, fresh to the US of A.
At last I'm taller than the tree,
which sparkles in the B&W snap.
The photo's blurry: Dad took a time
exposure using his box camera.
A black landline telephone sits
behind. The television's switched off.
It's only black and white TV anyway,
with just the main network channels.

How did we exist with no color, no cable,
no DVD, no BlueRay, no GameBoy?
