Manager David Moyes left the capital city on Saturday afternoon insisting his Everton side should have
taken all three points against Fulham.
The Blues were defeated 1-0 at Craven Cottage, with Claus Jensen netting courtesy of a deflection off Lee
Carsley in the 65th minute.
Everton had been in the driving seat for the majority of the first half and should have been awarded two penalties for
fouls on Andy Johnson but following the interval there was a clear difference and the home side began to capitalise.
Moyes told evertonfc.com: “In the
first half we controlled more of the game but to Fulham’s credit they upped the pace we didn’t pass it as well at the start of the second-half and that put
us on the backfoot.
“We didn’t play well but I certainly did think they way we played merited a defeat. We had opportunities to score and we didn’t
take them and when you come away from home and get those chances, you have to take them.
“We limited Fulham to few opportunities and a deflected goal
which loops over the keeper means we have come away with nothing and I think we played well enough to get three points.”
Moyes had every right to feel
aggrieved following the final whistle as television replays clearly show that in each half Johnson had legitimate claims for a penalty turned
down.
Moyes added: “I am trying to be careful and I am trying not to criticise referees but you know you have to think that Andy Johnson is sharp and
he is quick.
“If he nicks it away in front of your centre-half then he goes to ground and doesn’t make contact with the ball then you have to say is
that or is it not a penalty.
“Then the second one late on when he is pulled back by the arm and it is clear for everyone to see. I think I can think
back to the opening game of the season and Liverpool got a penalty on Steven Gerrard for intent.
“The referee never went back and gave them intent on
this decision and it was the exact same issue.”
