Default Save St Margaret's Primary School, Toxteth

There are plans to close this excellent Church of England School due to falling numbers. The Vicar, the Rev. Robert Gallagher, is conducting a silent vigil outside Liverpool Town Hall in protest about this proposed closure. These are taking place on each Wednesday in December from 12 noon to 3pm

The St Margaret's Primary School is in Upper Hampton Street off Prince's Rd, Toxteth. If you feel strongly about this, protest to your local City Councillor, the Diocese of Liverpool or your MP.

The school is attached to the Church of St Margaret of Antioch, 3 Prince's Rd,
Toxteth and once formed part of a significant Christian complex of Church, school, institute, orphanage and young adults hostel. All paid for by public subscription in the latter half of the 19th C and early 20th C. Here's the Church's web site

Ironically on a day when a Christian couple from Anfield were found not guilty in court in a religious case brought against them by a recent British Moslem convert, a Church of England Vicar is protesting about the closure of St Margaret's Primary school which has a majority of Muslim pupils. It seems the Muslim parents greatly value the school. Here's Rev. Gallagher's vigil on "You Tube"

I went to this primary school and it's really sad about the closure. However, a number of schools were threatened with closure in the area due to falling numbers. One of the criteria was the building. St Margarets is an old Victorian building which appears to need a lot of work to bring it up to standards. If it hadn't have been this school closed, it would have been another in the local area.

That said it's still sad. I intend to visit before it closes - because unfortunately it will.

Thanks for your comment. Here's what the Head of St Margaret's said to the Liverpool Echo earlier this year:

He said:?We are a small school but that is part of its success in that we can cater for the needs of all the children.?
On the condition of the building he added: ?It?s a bias against old buildings. During the really hot summer a couple of years ago, three recently built schools had to close as it was too hot yet we were beautifully cool.?

Also look has been achieved at Wavertree Church of England School, another old Victorian building. Where there's a will there's a way really.
