I'm interested in knowing more about the last two photo's Howie, Is this a new 'floating' landing Stage being positioned, or is it 'piles' being driven in for a more permanent feature? Cheers.

They were a couple of years ago Norm, when they put a tempory floating stage in, it didn`t last very long
They got permission to use the I O M ferry berth which they are still using. Everytime we have a cruise ship visit the ferry doesn`t call at Liverpool, unless it`s a small ship. this is from May2007

Thanks Joe! I remember the old stage! I believe this 'disintergrated' some time ago, and wondered if it was ever replaced.

They're undertaking the advance works in preparation for the new Pier Head landing stage. I don't know when the work is scheduled for completion but assume it will now be sometime next year before it is up-and-running as a ferry terminal again.

Mersey ferry terminal opens to passengers at Pier Head

A new landing stage for the Mersey Ferries has opened to passengers at Liverpool's Pier Head.

The terminal will be used by the three Mersey Ferries

The 8m terminal replaces a temporary facility which has been in use since the previous landing stage sank in bad weather in 2006.

The landing stage will also be the base for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service's river based fire station.

Part of the cost of the new terminal was funded by 3.8m from the European Regional Development Fund.

Neil Scales, chief executive of Merseytravel, said: "We are delighted to see the world famous Mersey Ferries calling once again at the spiritual home in front of the Three Graces.

"Our tourism strategy contributes more than 34m and the equivalent of 742 full-time jobs to the region's economy each year."

Thanks, Joe. Your very fine photographs bring back memories of when Donna and I were in Liverpool in early October when we scattered my Mum's ashes from the ferry.
