Thanks Joe! Your pics bring back some great memories for me and my wife, Ta!! This attached pic was taken 1954 by one of the 'pavement photographers' as we walked down from the Tower fairground area.

Fine pictures GD! I have just looked at your slideshow on Flicker. That picture with the kids eating the chips is a classic! Thanks for sharing them with us.

You don't realise just how much sky traffic there is until it's pointed out
A century ago Liverpool was the major European port serving the eastern Seaboard of America and much of its growth can be attributed to the fact that its position offered the shortest sea route.

For the very same reason, around 75% of all flights between Europe and North America cross UK airspace and on a typical day around 50% of all transatlantic flights will cross the Wirral / Liverpool area at high level via the Wallasey directional beacon near Saughall Massie.

Inward traffic usually peaks between 6.00 am & 10.00 am as flights head for Heathrow and major continental airports, whilst outbound traffic is normally at its heaviest between 11.00 am & 2.00 pm. I was told that at one time Wallasey was the busiest crossing point in Europe for transatlantic traffic. Traffic levels can however fluctuate markedly from day to day as aircraft are often allocated more northerly flight tracks over the Atlantic depending on prevailing wind strength.

They are a nuisance. Send 'em further south. I've started zapping them with me laser pointer. That'll teach 'em.
