Still, this shows the undeveloped land between Skelhorne Street and the station. I believe James Newlands map shows an earlier Lime Street station.
In the 1880s the two track tunnel was removed and converted into a 4 track deep cutting. There is still a tunnel to the north of the cutting for shunting purposes.

Deprived of its unique dockland waters Liverpool
becomes a Venice without canals, just another city, no
longer of special interest to anyone, least of all the
tourist. Would we visit a modernised Venice of filled in
canals to view its modern museum describing
    how it once was?

Thanks for all the comments. I think I'll simply invent a ship's name and be done with it.
I have also been engrossed in Iquique and my tale also includes that place.
Chris, I visited your website and read a few stories by aspiring writers and...gulp...realized that my style is sadly lacking. I think it's too long winded and needs quite a lot of cutting. I don't want this to be boring or padded full of adverbs and adjectives.
I also remember reading somewhere "don't explain to the reader, show him."
I need some real harsh constructive criticism.
Karen, you are dream! You have motivated me when I most needed it. Maybe our gg grandparents knew each other...wow!
    I'll plod on.
    Well, back
