Here's a link to some recent pictures of the clearance work that's been carried out.

New signs were put up around the entrance gate a few weeks ago advertising the developments. The large car-park, opposite Bempton Rd was being scraped clean today.
YEP ! good news. But don't leave the gates open like they used to, to let the 'wanderers' set up camp again.
The history of the site is a bit off on theat web link though -
Synopsis of the sites history:
Previous to 1984 - Land was docks.
For 1984 Garden Festival - Docks filled in, landscaping, building dome.
Since 1984 - Short life as 'Pleasure Island' (It was amazing!). That closed around 1995. Remained abandoned since.
2006 - Festival dome demolished.
2010 - Work begins on restoration of gardens. About bloody time Liverpool City Council!
It was a long time since that area was a dock.
Pre 1984 I think landfill/tip/rubbish dump would be more accurate...
Anyone remember a dock there?
Judging by all the front gardens on my estate, I can't understand why we don't do better at trampolining in the Olympics.
Herculanium was by were Jaguar cars are now and th gym on the other side.
You can still see the Herculanium dock entrance on this satellite pic -

It is a bit North of the Festival Site.
Herculanium was the most Southern dock - neat MD&HB map here -

So, was it the dump, or just undeveloped land before the festival?
