I'm sure this has been said before, but the people who are against this development are the people living on part of the site which has already been developed!
Obviously NIMBY's, and I don't know why anybody is taking their objections seriously, especially over an area which has been closed to the public (which includes the NIMBYs) for over 20 years.
It's just a derelict site after all, not a Site of Scientific Interest!

I was working on houses up on grafton st , dingle in 83 / 84/85 and saw a lot of coming and going from the site, from the development of the dock area below into a giant carpark, full size terraced houses being built then demolished after the event to the yellow submarine going in on the back of a truck, then seeing it leave later on, always wondered what happend to the site afterwards.

There has just been a week long public enquiry into the Festival site.

Hopefully will have some more info soon.

Let's hope it's good news and we get these gardens restored and open

Does anyone know when the results of the enquiry will be announced?

I don't yet know what the connection is between these two 'worlds'. The first is in the IGF site, near Bempton Road end. The second is off Grafton Street.

Back in time to 1984 when the festival site was being developed...

Note the huge oil rig being built acoss the river.

I had a press pass (don't ask me how) for the festival's opening and have a lot of photographs of it which I'll post when I can get a scanner organised..

What a waste of a good dome.

Built using strong lightweight steel an all.

Council and culture people are ruining my city, even the Beatles themed hotel has a crappy silver top floor that looks like they stole a floor from a youth hostel.

Indeed! Should of been used for leisure/sports as it was intended after the IGF ended.

The City Council have alot to answer for !

It's too late for the Festival Hall, but let's hope it's not too late for the gardens

The dome would of made a suitable arena as well.
