It's no doubt a sign of just how far-reaching the refurbishment will have to go before it's finally finished, but it's actually looking rather more wrecked than it did in June!

    Pagodas, restored!!

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...yside-12392729

Two Chinese Pagodas which formed the centrepiece of Liverpool's Garden Festival site have been restored to their former glory.

The International Garden Festival ran for six months in 1984, attracting 3.8 million visitors.

Much of the site lay derelict for a quarter of a century, but it is now being redeveloped into housing and public gardens.

It's great to see something is finally being done, with the festival site! Along with St.Johns beacon, when it was empty,it's been an embarrasment for the city!

I can't wait for it to open. I've always loved this place and have missed the oriental gardens.

Hopefully when its restored and open, it doesn't get vandalised and neglected overtime.

Yes, I agree. I believe it will be closed after dusk every day, so hopefully keep the vandals out.

There was a large tanker by the pagoda earlier this week. I presume re-filling the lake? which was empty of water the last time I was around there.
Some turfing has been done by the entrance (near Priory Woods) and a gap in the hoardings allow the freshly painted pagoda to be seen.
It's possible to see the new bridge from the path leading up from the promenade.
If anyone passes to take pictures, there is a 'floral ships wheel' on the grass bank just North of the Britannia pub (opposite the ships funnels). At one time this area was part of the Garden Festival Site.
Edit: I read the plaque by the floral display...it turns out the symbol, a gear wheel with cogs, is from the Rotary Club. A picture is on the website of the Liverpool Garston branch:

Wondered where all those bits, and pieces, went! Wasn't there a gun,of some sort?

Here are a few shots I took just a week ago. As you can see, they've still got a fair way to go before it's finished.
