How did you manage that? I thought the Echo had been granted exclusive access? Their pics look a lot tidier too - yet were taken around the same time? How could this be?

Looking at the lake without water,made me look for one with! (Trees looking pretty sparse though) And I wonder what happened to the S.S. Typhoo?

I had forgotten all about that! Tea from the Orient, via Birmingham probably, but not part of the Oriental Gardens as such...

The footpath, that follows the Southern perimeter fence is to be closed for a few months (this leads from Priory wood to the promenade).

It would have been nice to have seen the Festival site restored for the 700-year celebration of the city's founding as well as the European Year of Culture. Ah, well. . .

Some demolition has taken place at the Northern-end of the site. The elevated walkways and train station near the dragon-slide have gone. I also never noticed the tubular-wall with the wooden 'moon gate', although mounds of earth may be covering it.

I used to work in the HO of an Office Licence Company who sponsored the Vine Garden in the Festival. One weekend we had a pressing of the grapes - great fun - on the site. The grape juice and water started to ferment in the bottles and a couple exploded. A warning had to be put out by the Echo and BBC.
