That house had a spire on it and looked even better. It is predominately in Liverpool they paint the outsides of the houses. It makes them waterproof as well.

The street is actually Blythswood St/Colebrooke Rd - the corner. Lambton is the next street down.

The turreted house is opposite Dingle playing fields.

This was about the same time the Old Hutte at Halewood was demolished to make way for the Ford factory. Both of those events, and losses to local history (!), had to have been in the Sixties because I re-emigrated to come back to the United States in August 1968, leaving on a United States Lines freighter from Liverpool to Philadelphia.

    Best regards

    Chris,

There was a house set back not far from Aigburth Rd that was abandoned and demolished in the 1970s. Maybe it wasn't the farmhouse. It looked quite a size. Old maps may show it.

    Default Dingle glen walking guide.

    Hi guys,

I've created a walking guide [of sorts] for all you urban explorers out there who, like myself, expressed some interest about revisiting the area again, to try and get some bearing on where Dingle glen was actually located.

I hope this helps? I've overlaid the Dingle estate map from 1850 over the Google Earth view, which shows the old garden festival site. There may be some inaccuracies with the map, as they do tend to stretch over time, and with repeated copying - although, I think I've got it fairly close.

    Good luck exploring!

    Darren

    Default Dingle or Aigburth

    [QUOTE=darrenwhite100;202299]Hi guys,

I've created a walking guide [of sorts] for all you urban explorers out there who, like myself expressed some interest about revisiting the area again, with respect to the photos published, and to try and get some bearing on where Dingle glen was actually located.

Watch out, you'll get the locals after you. A couple of years ago they demanded the Dingle district sign along Riverside Drive be removed as they thought they lived in Aigburth. This overlay of course proves otherwise

Hi Taffy thanks for that. It doesn't surprise me, people have gone to war over less.

Does that now mean we can put it back?

Well...if it was good enough for royalty [King John is going back a few years though, I give you that] it should be good enough for those sign-robbing Liberals?

BTW this is 'my' favourite sign.

Question I remember that cow too...

Yes, a farm in the city. The farmhouse was there until the early to mid 1970s, then it was demolished to build flats between Jerico Lane and Aigburth Rd. It was a nice house and deserved to be kept.

That's were our milkman loaded his horse and cart.

But weren't you shipped to Colemendy (sp?) in N. Wales for two weeks when you were 12 or so?

The Liverpool Schools kept a camp there so kids could hike, see cows and sheep, know not what to step in, and breathe that funny fresh air...

It was a great break from school...

    gil A - I think I was 12 or so when I went there...

    Default Dingle Glen Bridge

Hi Kev, it serves the Liverpool Central/ Hunts Cross line. The railway track is mostly excavated embankment as it cuts through the Dingle [see map below], but where it crossed Dingle glen, it formed a bridge with arches beneath - as shown on the earlier photograph. [I've marked the site with a 'red' ellipse on the map below].

I think the bridge still exists, but has been lost to view, as the corpy back-filled the ground around it up to the level of the present day track.

I'm very impressed by Dazza's attention to detail, so much so that I've joined this forum as, sometimes, I might be able to add something.
The name "Dingle Glen" never existed.
It's only ever been called "The Dingle".
The top of the bridge is visible, just a few yards from the mouth of the tunnel.
It can be seen from the train.
And probably with a good zoom lens from St Michaels Station.

Looking in the opposite direction to the map - towards the river. The bridge can be seen. The track enters the tunnel, right.
