Deprived of its unique dockland waters Liverpool
becomes a Venice without canals, just another city, no
longer of special interest to anyone, least of all the
tourist. Would we visit a modernised Venice of filled in
canals to view its modern museum describing
    how it once was?

Why would you want to change such a great building.

Would you like a glass roof on it? or maybe a rail station up there?

This was an hotel at one time wasn't it? Spike...all they had to do was give it a face lift and revamp the interior and it would have rivalled the Adelphi.

Train station right on its door step, what more do yer need.

    Yep it was George.

Probably cost too much to do it up. Would have been great though.

Better in use than derelict though. My dad used to take me the cafeteria there in the 70s when getting his monthly Brittanica encyclopedias from John Menzies in the station.

Just had a thought...It prolly failed as an hotel because of the noise from the trains coming and going?

Doubt that. Trains were coming and going when it was a hotel for yonks and the Crest (now Liver Hotel) is right above the lines on Lord Nelson st.
