The manure wharfs at Sandhills,Kirkdale. In the old days manure collected off the streets of Liverpool was loaded here onto barges to be transported to Lancashire farms to be spread on farm fields

    I'll second that.
I will say that horse doesn't look the best of horses. It's got two bald patches on each front leg. This could be due to being kept in a small place and rubbing against whatever. Also the "riders" look like a pair of dodgy gypo's to me.

    Thanks for the information Smurf.
I think the people in the pic were travellers, after I took the first pic the driver called me over and asked me to take one by the traffic lights, he spoke in a strong Irish accent.

Theres a group of "Travellers" opposite where my brother works, they have a horse. It's home is 2 pallets covered with an old door, very cosy indeed. My brother complained to the RSPCA and they ummed and arrhed about it.
It's still there now, rain or wind, just stands there looking miserable.

    Could be the same one.

Good pic. I can imagine that pic in a posh magazine advertising some expensive perfume.
