Good news for us, the dollar is worth about 58p right now. Excellent place to shop for candy, kitchen utensils, knick knacks, canned goods, and home pregnancy tests.
Funny accent you have there Jack for a guy from Birkenhead.

Just in Birkenhead temporarily. Normally I live in Connecticut, having a trial period with the better half, so who knows?

And how are you finding life,"over the water",as it's known on this side?!

Hey guys, thanks for your comments!

I've been here for two weeks now... settling in nicely. I like B'head, though I was out in Liverpool last Friday and whenever I mentioned where I'm staying, people tended to put their noses up, . I guess Birkenhead has a reputation. Anyways, I like it. I'm right near Hamilton Square and have been around on foot and on the trains quite a bit. I have lots of time to fill during the weekdays, so always looking for something new to do.

As of now, I'm planning on staying until the end of January. Depends on how long the lady can put up with me. So far so good. If the electrician comes to fix the stove (hob) this morning, I may get out to take a photo today!

yeah, it's a really nice area. Not sure what "Georgian" means, though I've heard the term quite a bit. Was that the style of architecture under one of the Kings George?

The town hall, incidentally, hosts a movie night once a week for the Birkenhead Cinema Club. Really nice place to take in a film. We saw "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" this past Tuesday. Next Thurs, they're showing a French film.

Passed over that bridge a few times on my bike recently, carried it up the flights of stairs to where the picture was taken, still trying to get my breath back.

    Hi Jack,
the term "Georgian" denotes the reign of George III(1738to1820) You probably know the time better as the "Revolutionary" period(?) when us Brit's decided to let you become independant!

Indeed! We do enjoy our independence, that was quite nice of y'all. We thank you every July 4th with a nice fireworks show

Thanks also for the info on George III, is he the same that went slightly mad and believed that England would be swallowed up by the sea? Perhaps he discovered global warming centuries before Al Gore.

Yeh,that's the one! Apparently,he was a nice enough guy,as kings go,but suffered periodic bouts of nuttiness, the cause of which, has only been diagnosed recently!

p.s. is Al Gore some sort of king?

    amazing pics as always.

imagine how annoyed you would be, if you got all the way to the top and realised you dropped your lens cap at the foot of the bridge

Some more great pics there Joe. I am too ill to get to Liverpool tomorrow , I hope you will be there to get some of your wonderful camerawork on the Queen Mary 11 when she sails into her berth. I'd been so looking forward to seeing her for real, I look forward to seeing some lovely pics on Yo later this week,
