    Smile Isle Of Man

A lot of people from the Isle Of Man settled in Liverpool I have great grandparents who came here in the 1900s. They could speak Manx Gaelic the language was more common than it is today. Manx people's surnames have similar origins to the Irish surnames but with some peculiarities. The Gaelic Mac pre-fixes were dropped off over time but most surnames retain the "K" or "C" or "Q" sound from the "C" of the Mac:-

Lots of Liverpool people have settled in the Isle of Man. Dougls has been said to be a suburb of Liverpool.

I know some of my family went over to live there. The Isle Of Man has always had links to Liverpool.

    Hi Blue,
no surprise about the links, as I.O.M. is only"down the road" as it were! Like the avatar.

They were moving over to ro-ro car ferry ships. All, or most, of IoM ships were turbines, which were fast but expensive to run. They only went top speed when full as it was too expensive in fuel to maintain top speed with half a ferry load. Tynwald was 27 years old when scrapped.
