    Default Isle of Mann boat captains

    Does anyone know or can suggest where I might find a list of captains from the 30's and 40's ? My Great Aunt married a Robert Oates and moved to live in the Isle of Mann, where we used to visit her in the 60's.

    Can't really help yer but have you thought of emailing the IOM steam packet company for info as to where you can?

    The book "Steam Packet 175" published by Ferry Publications PO Box 33, Ramsey, Isle of Man IM99 4FP tel: 01624898445 has a 26 page chapter "The AtoZ" of Steam Packet Captains.

    This has potted biographies of the Captains who have served the company up to 2005 including the period of time you are looking for.

    You may be able to pick it up at transport orientated bookshops, on Amazon (usually at a discount) or direct from the publishers. Cover price is ?21.50
