    Default Cresswell Mount

You have got me going on this now.
Although I grew up around that area it is all a bit vague to me now, but I have been trying to piece it together.
Looking at those pics, the church referred to as St Polycarps and still standing today, the only one I can see on Bing maps is on the corner of Conway Street, which is a long way from Adelaide Street.
Also looking at another pic, the view up Gordon Street, the flats appear to be on a much higher level than Netherfield Road, and behind a few of rows other dwellings, so it looks odd that the church is right behind them when they came down.
Is the road between the Cygnet pub and the flats supposed to be Northumberland Terrace, isn?t that were the flats were on?
Also the road markings do not seem apt for the area I am thinking of.
Where about does John Bagots hospital fit around this, wasn't this somewhere behind the flats?
Something does look familiar about it though.
As I said, time has dimmed my brain so forgive me if I am talking rubbish.
Fantastic site Ged, it has robbed me of many hours of my time.

Anyway, this is me on my bike in Abbey Street, Grays the chemist at the top on Heyworth Street. Not sure when the street map is dated as it doesn't show any of the high rises.

    Pete.

Give up Pete,I'm right and Northumberland Terrace was nowhere near that demolition of the flats.
Northumberland Terrace was the next street to Albion St 3/4 of the way up York Terrace and York Terrace was next to Melbourne Street.

John Baggots Hospital was on Havelock Street further along and up.

Something does look familiar about it, but one of the others pictures shows a view of Cresswell Mount from Gordon street which is further along past Havelock street.

Yes , I know where you are talking about now and it does ring a bell.
So that picture is not of Cresswell Mount which was the other end.

That's not the Cygnet but the Crescent Vaults George and those are Everton Hieghts on Everton Terrace.

Thanks for the kinds comments about the site Stanier, glad you like it.

I think my text regarding that being St. Polycarps is wrong having looks at Polycarps again so still scratching my head.

Stanier, snap - here's me on my trike with Holly Street tenements being demolished in 1969.

Ged, I think this might help in solving that location.

There is mention of a pub called the cygnet and a row of shops protected by scaffolding.

Birkenhead was also where I spent a bit of time. I wondedred why it was familiar.

Pete Ged knows the demolition took place on Nethy road north,he's just curiuos as to the streets in pic,Birkenhead has nothing to do with it.

But then again I've studied that clip you posted and something tells me you could be right? the windows in the heights look very similair but the block doesn't show the staircase frontage in Geds pics

Even the round portholes. And also where the higher levels had verandahs (sp) that were removed prior to demolition but you can still see the doors to them.

hi Steve I think that photo is of the small park that was further along Netherfield Rd close to Hapton St or "cardiac Hill" as a taxi driver once called it when I asked him to go that way
the park is still there but now its part of the bigger Everton Park
