Does anyone else find it disturbing that the only 2 women on the list are a footballer’s girlfriend and a glamour model?
I did, so here are a few Liverpool women with achievements worthy of mention...
Margaret Simey- A social reformer for the Liverpool working class, who worked to combat racism in the police. She was also the first female graduate in social science from Liverpool University. She died in 2004 at the age of 98.
Bessie Braddock- campaigner for the under-privileged in Liverpool.
Janice Long- the first female DJ to have a daily Radio One show and the first woman to host Top of the Pops.
Beryl Bainbridge- described as one of the greatest living British novelists.
I’ve missed loads, so please add your own. Let’s show people that being “beautiful” and “talked about” is not the best that Liverpool women and girls can aspire to.
