    Glad you liked the photo. The Minton tiled floor is only on open display for limited periods. Normally it's protected by a special wooden floor. The hall itself is truly magnificent and is well worth a visit even if the floor is covered over.

    I would like to see the tiled floor but will take your advise and go there either way. That floor has to be protected.
    At the Waldorf hotel in Manhattan they took up the entrance lobby carpet I think in the early 80's and discovered the most amazing art deco mosaic floor. I love seeing it and thankful they did not have to cover it up again, not that old.

    So, why exactly is the floor covered up? Woulda thought it was designed for walking on. Are the tiles very delicate or in poor condition. Just seems over kill.

    Simply to protect them from 150 years of wear. They are good condition but would not have been but for this protection. The floor tiles on the surrounding passageways which are not protected have been worn out and lost their artistic details.
