I used to stay in a shoebox called Pruit Igo in the Bronx. I couldn't get a beer there cos I went into a black bar. The barnman said that it was a black bar. I said I couldn't care less. He said again it was a black bar, i told him I wasn't prejudiced. he said that I didn't understand. It was a black bar. He would'nt serve me cos I was white. Strange cos I never had that problem in the Southern States.I laughed like a chinaman.

How strange. I have never been to the Bronx apart from the gardens once many years ago. I went to the Apollo in Harlem when no white people went there ,went with a date to see BB King (and Lionel Ritchie;s group) everyone was so nice to us and we ate at a Harlem 'Soul' restaurant after. People were lovely to us. I am shocked as Manhattan is so multi cultural. Maybe the Bronx is different.

Bronx was very different then. I believe it's been gentrified now though. Lotsa firemen living there. The place I was staying was the projects. Don't know whether they still have them.

I don't really know Pabs. So many bad things we see on TV news happen in the Bronx. 90 degrees here already (11am) so I should go to the park today as it is round the corner, maybe tea at the Plaza.

Thanks Itza. The photo of the wall was taken with my 'real' camera. It is much more colourful than this copy. I took it in Sept. 2001 I believe no matter what date it says on the pic!!

Well Roni, I shall go to Birkenhead Park then. It was the model for Central Park. Weather is a little different here. Raining for a change.

Nice photo Lenka. Might have been nice for you. Every time I popped me head out of the door it rained. Not heavy, just enough to wet you. Reckon God's got a cob on with me.

Yes,it was the "Eagle"! The building was a U.S. consulate,in the 19th century, and one of the consuls,(Maury?) is buried in the Anglican cathedral!
