Default Mount Vernon Enquiry from a Manc

I have my Gt Grandfathers school report dated 1883.

I'm trying to locate the school- (actually the city as they didn't turn up in Manchester until 1891).

In the report he thanks his parents for sending him to a Catholic school and he writes

"St Thomas', Mount Vernon " in the upper right of his introductory page.

If I can find out the location / region then this would be a big help.

His father's trade was a coach builder on the railways- and when they moved to Manchester- they were never more than 200 yards from the rails.

Was / Is Mount Vernon an area?- Is there a St Thomas's?

    Appreciate any help
