As I was in Liverpool for a visit to the workings of the Queensway Tunnel, and the walk through (which I have posted on that thread), I had a wander around with my camera and captured a few pictures:

We started in the William Duncan, a bog-tiled pub on St John's Lane - I gather this is repro, but very well done:


I tried to get the same view as in my 1970s picture of the Albert Dock:


but in those days there were no canal boats:


ALthough I like some modern architecture, I'm not sure that this is the right place for it:

Nice pics there, i wonder if that tiling is repro or original as it seems very well done as you say.
Cracking day yesterday going through the tunnel and back over on the ferry.
Can't remember the last time I got on the ferry and went straight back to the Pier Head without hearing "Ferry Across The Mersey" playing out.

I quite like the moody effects - the clouds are often more interesting than the buildings

The tiling is original, I worked there restoring it and the ceiling in 1979.

Mart from this site was my brusher upper.

It's dirty work but someone has to make sure those pigs died for a reason.

Danensis, great pics. Please don't photoshop them. I love the moody skies and sulky water. I have taken some very moody pics of the Manhattan skyline and Statue of Liberty over the years and they are my faves.

I doubt it,that architecture would cost an arm and a leg to reproduce in todays money...I suspect it was bufferd and steam cleaned to its original state..much cheaper.

I hope you're not including the new Mersey Ferries building when you say that. Your photo serves to show clearly how this latest monstrosity spoils the view from the river of the Cunard Building and thereby the Three Graces generally. The City Planners should be thoroughly ashamed.

It just shows the standard of alot of modern buildings compared with the older buildings.

When u think about how much places like the ferry building cost can u imagine how much a 'liver building' would cost nowadays
