    Default Some Hoylake pics


    the council offices

    Central Hall with a few letters missing on it`s sign

    Date stone on top of Central Hall

    St Luke`s Methodist church,with a modern attachment in the middle

    Idon`t know if this is the old fire station as over the door it says fire e House
    with the extra E looking a new addition

    Royal Mail building

    Flock of seagulls sculpture in front of the old Quadrant buiding

    Old drinking fountain and modern lifeboat station

    Queen Victoria drinking fountain with the old model boat pond now sadly neglected

    Nice pics there but that's not a flock of seagulls, it's a knot of Knots.

    Could have been fire engine house before they took out the rest to fit the window.

    Very fine, Joe.

    In terms of the fire house with the seeming extra "E" is it possible that the window was put in later and it originally read "Fire Engine House"?

    When the Sculpture of the Knots was unveiled there was outcry by the locals, telephone calls to Roger, letters to the Globe etc.
    I was working over there at the time and really liked it from day one.
    As it ages it seems to look better and I think it has grown on the locals now.

    Nice photos there! What date do you reckon that is in the brickwork.. 1901?

    Yes it's 1901. Although not immediately obvious given the monogram-like nature of the way the date is presented, more as a design than to convey the information that it is telling us a date. Here in Baltimore there is a fine 1888 datestone that is presented in a similar way.

    Has anyone got any old photos of the Open Air swimming baths that used to be in Hoylake. I remember them well. Freezing cold and salt water.......yuk!
