    Default Tate and Lyle

I have read a novel once that told the story of the pauper kids swimming in the warm water that they pumped out of the factory, can't remember what they called it. But have founsd these photo's on this website of the old tate and lyle if you are interested.

They were called the "Scaldies," the nearer you got to the pipes the hotter the water. In summer we travelled to Litherland to swim in the canal but in the cold weather we would go to the "scaldies" at Tates. We lived nearer Sandhills bridge than Tates but people were always throwing dead dogs and cats off the bridge in sacks so we never swam there.

Cool pics, although I was hoping to see the old building. I used to love going past it on the train before going to pizzaland on lime st and eating tate and lyle sugar cubes out of the bowl on the table

Taken during a tour of the Vauxhall Area in 2005 organised by the Scottie Press and attended by local authors, the VNC and Liverpool film studios.
