Fantastic pics Joe. The church, Holy Trinity was on that mound of grass to the right of the fire station across Springfield. The fire station is built on the site of the Wellington pub and a corner Geogian block that became a doss house before falling into dereliction. My brother lived in Gt Richmond street tennies when they were council, it was known as ghost town back then due to the lack of kids residing there, mostly elderly.

Hmmmm! just had a thought dig up all the cobbles around areas where they're not needed, store the cobbles for the town centre when needed and tarmac where the cobbles have been dug up.

    That would make sense...yeah.

I say keep the cobbles as well...but lay them where they would be seen ie not in industrial road areas where they are out of the way and just wasting elegance.

You'd never have a job with the council George. You're speaking some sense.

Blast from the past with these photos lads, particularly seeing Keizers Glass building
This was on the corner of St Anne St and Birkett St, My first job as a van boy for
George Lunts bakery in 1958 was in Birkett St, next door to The Full Swing Lemo factory
spent 10 yrs their as van boy, bakery worker, then Driver, before moving around the corner
to Sykes bakery, later to become Scotts Bakery.
Happy days, thanks for the memories.
