    Very interesting and amusing answers,but no,no,no,!!! It caused a minor controversy in the Midlands when the James Cameron film was doing good box office in the cinema,

    Nonsense, he lived on the iceberg till 1933 and couldn't grow any more food. He died the next year.

    The statue should have been in the Mid Atlantic instead of in the Mid Lands.

    Stoke Council would not allow the statue to be erected within the city because they thought that the Captain had been party to a shameful act. Lichfield, beiing a Staffordhire town ,offered the statue a home in its' newly opened Beacon Gardens. And there Captain Smith still stands. However ,when Stoke saw the popularity ratings for the James Cameron film Titanic, they thought they would cash in on it and asked Lichfield for the statue. Lichfield council gave them the sailors farewell. ( That story was told to me by Dave the bin man who works in Lichfield )

    That's a great story Brian. I always thought the Captain done his best. Is this not true?
