    Default halfpenny meals

Kev, If you google halfpenny meals for schoolchildren you will come up with some info it is the Education act(provision of meals) act from 1906 which is basically part of an act taking the requirement from the poor law to the Local Education Authority amongst other things
I think this is the reference to the flyer you posted but then again it could be further away than Man U to Barca

The cheapest meal I can remember was 5d in the 1940`s if you were poor they were supplied free. Tickets were issued for the free ones. We would be marched from St Johns Kirkdale to a Chalmer`s Hall on Westminster Road.
Pupils paying were issued with their meals first then us poor ones were served so everyone knew who was on free dinners, but as time went by they realised this was wrong and changed the system. The meals were quite good but the puddings or the sweet was nearly always semolina with a spoonful of jam in it which I hated.
