yeah thats the ones, there is a larger single house and 2 houses next to each other further down the road...
All i know is that one used to be owned by an old woman who was very much in need of a long bath up to ]17 - 18 years ago.
Sorry, yeah thats the one. On the bend by Beaconsfield. She did exist believe me!
This could cause a right stink.
so the houses on woolton road arnt the smelly womens house(s)?
its always struck me as an odd place to build houses....
I've got old pictures of the area that show that this gatehouse was once 'inside' the walled gates that are opposite Allerton Road/Woolton road (springwood ave).
The whole of Woolton Road leading up to Woolton itself was once a single lane track and thus all of the gatehouses were once enclosed - now that it is a duel carriageway, they are stuck in no mans land.
This picture gives an excellent idea:
If you stood where the photographer was now and looked right, you would be looking in to the entrance to Tesco's in Woolton.
wow, thanks cad. i know where u mean, how beautiful it all looked back then.
does anyone have any pics of the houses that MC is asking about? Where they really gatekeepers houses? The reason why I ask is that on the entrance to allerton towers, there's already a nice home that I thought would have been a gatehouse into the estate.

Yip, I also remember the 'stinky' lady who lived in the middle of the dual carriageway on Menlove avenue. The bus drivers used to go right past her when she was waiting at a stop in town !!!! Must have been over ten years ago though !! On the occasions when she did get on the bus, people used to move upstairs to avoid the pong !
Also a very big thanks to Cadfael for the excellent picture of where Tescos Woolton is now...amazing picture....maybe you can tell me what the writing is near the bottom of the picture ?
Do you have any other photos of the Woolton area, it would be great to see them.
Cheers
Dave
We went on a trip to Allerton Towers in primary school. We thought we were going to Alton Towers. We were disappointed

Hi Cadfael,
I was interested to see the old photo,
The first two propertys are great sandstone buildings
where 76yrs ago the district nurses and midwife's
nurse Glover & nurse Lewis, who delivered me and most
of my brothers and sisters where located.
the white building next door was Frank Smiths dairy,
where your's truly served is time as a joiner in the shippons
to the rear, the joiners shop of Bear Brand long before Tesco.
Cheer's,
Tippo.
PS,
Can we down load this photo.[/I]

The hill on the photo Cadfael posted looks much more steeper back in the old days than it looks now.....
