I wouldn't be happy with all that dust in

front of my house! Nice photos though...

    I passed down Sheil Road

and design has gone into the estate. I'll lay money on the residents being far happier living in a 'real' house than one of those high rise

    'apartments'.

Hopefully no asthma sufferers were nearby like myself.

Did people have to clean the

    dust off their houses themselves?
the demolition company did hose down the outside of the houses but the dust turned like clay when wet
    I

know quite a few people had to pay private cleaners to clean away the dust as it was every where even inside their houses

Havn't been near the airaid shelter by Crocky park Manshion for years but that pic looks like they have dug the entrance out. The earth used to go up much higher and you had to drop down to get into the entrance.

The flats on Sheil road and the likes of Corinth tower and the ones on Cantril farm (Hillsdean, etc) were built by French company Camus who used a pre fab system of concrete sections one on top of the other. This can be seen in the easthetic of the buildings with each pre fab section making up rooms and the sections between calconies. Unfortunately the concrete mix was apparently not of great quality and had led to cracks in the oad bearing structure which although it could have been fixed, would have cost more than any redevelopment would have returned. Shame because I really liked these flats - the scale was monumental, especially the ones on Shiel road which looked megalithic from certain viewpoints like the junction of St Oswald street/edge lane and on Queens drive by Holly lodge/larkhill garage.

You could do a story on why an office building has bells.

Great pics of Everton Library, Dave.
    Is it still closed?

Yes, it's all boarded up still. Shame really, as it looks like a nice building. Glad Dave got some decent interior snaps though, as too often these places get converted and all the old features are ripped out.

On an unrelated note (and not in Liverpool, hence no thread of it's own!), if there are any car enthusiasts here, I recently explored the Longbridge Rover plant, and the photos can be found on my site here. A couple of other guys I know who went there took a journalist there and there's six pages in the latest Top Gear magazine covering it!
