    Re Carved Insects on Blackburn Assurance Building:
    In heraldry the Bee can be used to represent the initial 'B' (in this case 'B' for Blackburn). It appears on Blackburn Borough Councils' coat of arms also. Bees can also represent other things.
    Lots of decorations on buildings are connected to the various symbols used in heraldry...Lancashire Roses, Fleurs-de-lys, Lions etc. The important families of the old townships/manors also have their own symbols which you can find around Liverpool.

    Is it a utility box of some sort?

    It's on Hawthorne Road in Bootle, on the corner of Waterworks St.

    I posted the same box in another thread last week. Having seen summat similar by the canal since, I think it's an old electricity box.
