Thanks for that picture Paul it takes me right back ! When I was a kid and we would go to Otterspool on Sunday afternoons we would always look at that 'secret cave' and wonder what it was and where did it lead to ??
I did hear what it was for - but I've forgotten !
Other childhood memories of Otterspool are; the huge Rhododendron bushes with the lovely big flowers - bright pink, purple and white ones.
The frog pond covered with bright green algae - if you were lucky you might catch sight of a frog. I think the frog pond was somewhere near that 'secret cave' ! I wonder if the pond is still there ?? Probably dried up or filled in now. It's a long time since I've been there.
That main path that leads in from Aigburth rd side, one side has a wall that seperates the park from the main road, and it gets quite steep as you walk further into the park - do you know where I mean ? There is a deep kind of dell, and my dad used to tell us that wolves were kept down there in the old days !! Ha,ha.
What, with tales of wolves and secret caves, we were in awe of the place ! There was always a certain kind of atmosphere there.

Remember the big cafe/sweet shop were you could get snacks, drinks and ice cream. There were tables & chairs outside and there would always be pesky wasps around the bins !
You've brought back memories of the place Paul !
It's made me think .. I should get down there myself with the camera.
Will do in the better weather.
