Please find attached images of the Leeds-Liverpool Canal system, includes images posted in other parts of the forum:
- 1794. The map is in two parts. The shows route out of Leeds, the bottom route into Liverpool.
- 1958. Photo shows barges (loaded with coal?) tied up on the canal towpath. There are overhead power cables following the line of the canal.
- approaching-wellington-dock-1965. Photo shows two barges tied together. There is a family group on them (father steering on one and mother and two children on the other).
- Athol-Street-C1900
- Barges-in-Chisenhale-Street 1935. A photograph of refuse being tipped on to barges on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Two S.D. bin freighter motor wagons are parked on the far side of the canal. The sides of the wagons are open and dustmen are transferring the refuse from the metal bins on to a barge on the canal.
- canal-bridge-burlington-street-1904. A photograph of the construction work undertaken to enlarge the Burlington Street bridge. The small archway of the original bridge is still there, but the ground above it has been raised, and pipes can be seen running along the ground.
- canal-bridge-burlington-street-1905. A photograph of Burlington Street Bridge over the Leeds- Liverpool canal after rebuilding and strengthening work. Photographed from canal level. The arch of the bridge is broader than that of the previous bridge. On the right hand bank of the canal there is a large pile of timber. What appears to be a sign of some description is attached to the right hand side of the bridge. A number of men line the bridge and are looking towards the photographer. On the left behind the bridge is a large mill building. There is a sign on the main gable of the mill which reads 'Oil Mill, Established 1804, Removed 1873'.
- Charters-Street-Warf-1906. Photo shows barges and goods being loaded + carts in the background.
- Chisenhale-Street-Bridge-1802. Chisenhale Street Bridge and Mill in 1802. The bridge was still standing in 1906.
- illustrates-its-decline-1982. Photo illustrates the decline of the canal. There is no traffic on it and canal side factories (Fairrie & Co and Tate & Lyle) are being demolished.
- Old-Burlington-Street-Bridge-Being-Demolished-2_9_1904. The photo shows the old Burlington Street bridge being demolished.
- two-girls-on-the-towpath-1958. Photo shows two girls on the
