    Default Bill Kenwright

    Born....4 September 1945
    Liverpool, Merseyside, England, UK

Played: Gordon Clegg (April 1968 - March 1969; and intermittently since then)Bill had no formal training as an actor, but it hasn't stopped him becoming probably the most successful actor in monetary terms to appear in Coronation Street. He bluffed his way into Granada, and landed a part in The Villains, and a succession of other roles which eventually led to him playing Gordon Clegg - but he only signed for one year.Like his character, he went south to London, but eventually found his fortune as a producer and impressario, and is now a multi-millionaire. The only role he will now act is Gordon - out of love for The Street and its cast.A lifelong Everton FC fan, Bill is sufficiently rich to stump up the money to partly finance the takeover of the club by Peter Johnson, and is now a director.

    Default Bill Kenwright

And it was for Bill Kenwright that I played guitar on the 1980 tour of "Joseph and His Amazing Technicoulour Dreamcoat". This is when I discovered Liverpool and The Queens pub in Williamson Square.

Jess Conrad played Joseph and on one occasion fell through the rather flimsy set stairs.

Bill then did a production of Godspell for several weeks over Christmas 1980. and to quote Cameron Mackintosh (who then owned the rights).. "Godspell never does well in Liverpool and never does well at Christmas" Nice one, Bill!!

It's me circa 1974 playing in the Terry Wilson Jazz band at The Lord Napier in Beulah Road, Thorton Heath near Croydon. Not that I was a jazz player, but Terry asked me to play and it was a roast-up as I was way out of my depth, musically. I was more a rock player Fripp/Hackett/Howe style.

Theatre impresario Bill Kenwright has revealed that Elvis Presley made a visit to Britain during which he toured sites in London in the company of rocker Tommy Steele in 1958, two years before the "King" is generally thought to have visited Britain.

Elvis only ever stopped at Glasgow airport on route from Germany to the USA. So it goes....
