Default Princes Dock Princes Half Tide Dock Liverpool

Had a walk around there to day. I haven't done so for a while. Nice to see residents in the towers. What was also nice was the old dock gates around and about plus some interesting views northwards with the huge wind turbines!

    It's still standing!

    Nice photos

The old wooden lock gates became obsolete when the Waterloo River entrance was commissioned shortly after WWII and gave direct access to the Prince's Half Tide Basin.

The Waterloo Entrance which replaced these gates aimed to make the docks more accessible to the Belfast and Dublin ferries which used Prince's Dock as a terminal before they migrated down the dock road. Then after a life of around 30 years Waterloo Entrance itself fell derelict.

I wonder just how long that old hut on Prince's Jetty will keep standing and that old passenger gangway has lain there probably since it was dragged up from the old Prince's Stage - shame it can't be preserved by the Maritime Museum and restored to the MD&HB colours - though I suppose by now it would collapse.

Prince's Jetty could do with restoration itself. Would make a fine viewing point especially when cruise ships arrive and depart.

Personally this is one of my favourite places in the Liverpool village. A good place to go to clear one's head.

    Hur'ah!

There were quite a few people there to wave off this fine looking ship, Scouse Smurf.
