A BUNCH of new Superlambananas will be on Liverpool streets this summer.
City culture officials are teaming up with the ECHO to create the designs for the eight new statues.
The Eight for 08 commission is being described as one of the legacies of Capital of Culture year.
The news follows yesterday?s announcement that the city had struck a deal with Superlambanana artist Taro Chiezo to create a replica of the original statue to remain in Liverpool for the next 80 years.
It is hoped the designs for the eight new 6ft lambies will be based on shortlisted images in the ECHO?s hugely popular Design-a-Superlambanana competition.
Locations are being considered for both the Superlambanana mark II and the Eight for 08.
Council leader Warren Bradley said: ?We?ll keep the Eight for 08 herd together and move them around the city so everybody in every community gets the opportunity to have them there and celebrate and enjoy them.?
Each community could also have input into creating updated designs for the statues which will be produced by Go Superlambananas company Wild in Art.
Liverpool Culture Company deputy chairman Phil Redmond said: ?The beauty of the Superlambanana is in how the idea transcended the original sculpture and used as 119 blank canvases to reflect the creativity of a city.? more
