Default St Gregory?s House in Gateacre

A VICTORIAN stately home will be demolished to make way for sheltered accommodation.

St Gregory?s House in Gateacre will be knocked down to make way for 14 two- and three-bedroom flats.

But opponents fear the scheme may not just be aimed at elderly people.

According to Liverpool council?s conditions, only one person over 60 will need to live in the new properties for them to be considered as sheltered accommodation.

Richard Cass, agent for developer Doyle Developments tried to dispel fears about who would occupy the accommodation, and said the Halewood Road site was ?a genuine retirement community?.

But Woolton councillor Barbara Collinge voiced her concerns.

She said: ?This area has had myriad applications to turn old buildings into flats. This is such an opportunity.?
