The "Strange round houses on Mill Lane".
The one with the steps up to it, used to be a sweet shop years ago.

    Derby Lane Police Station.
The houses alongside used to be the Fire Brigades houses.
They also had flats behind the station ( behind where Edwards The Jewellers is on Prescot Rd, now )

    St. Brendans Hall.
I used to frequent there with family and friends.
( I have the "St Brendans" sign that used to hang above it in the garage ! )

    Stanley Abbatoir.
Fantastic pic and yes I do remember the smell
A Cousin of mine worked there in the 70's.
He'd call to our's for his dinner and absolutley stunk !

    The Old Swan Tech College:
On a map I have from 1906, I think there were houses on this site and I do remember houses being to the left of the old college ( before Montague Rd ).
I "found" a pic from 1967 on my travels around the net ( can't remember where ) which shows the drive / entrance up to one of these houses, but if anyone doesn't want it displayed here then I can delete it !
    Martin
Great, this pic' shows the sandstone carving over the entrance, which was saved, and erected in the reception of the newer building, which has now been demolished? I wonder if it has survived?

    Default Old Swan Technical College.

According to the book: A Pictorial History of Old Swan and Tuebrook by Colin Gould.

Liverpool Corporation's Old Swan Stables in Broadgreen Road became surplus to requirements on the demise of the horse drawn trams and, in 1906 part of the stables was demolished for the building of Old Swan Technical College.
During the 1920's the stables housed many of the Corporation's bus fleet, some of which can be seen in the photograph taken in about 1926.

The depot was eventually handed over to the Education Comittee in 1938 for an extension of Old Swan Technical College.

Hope this answers the question, what was there before the College.
    Martin.

    I don't know I'm afraid.

The latest additions to this page

    http://inacityliving.piczo.com/?g=44843738&cr=7

on my site include 7 photos of streets demolished and abolished for the building of the Royal Hospital and some from around Anfield on matchday in December 69.

The last 4 around Everton and Myrtle street are very atmospheric too.

It's taken many trips to the LRO and with thanks to individual contributors too, the 6000th pic has just been uploaded to my site today including these.

A busy Queen Square in 1951

    Woolton Village in 1952

More than 5750 of the photos are previously unpublished though these two were back in the 1980s, the LRO books now being out of print.

is the woman in the first pic carrying a baby or just walking with her arms folded ? I've never understood why women do that

Excellent photos Ged. How do you copy the Liverpool Record Office Photos so clearly? Do you have a special camera photo copy stand. If so I'd like to know where to get one
