A SECRET history of Liverpool's parks is to be revealed in a new book.
Researchers from the University of Liverpool have investigated events in the city's parks and open spaces in the past 200 years.
It is hoped the work will lead to funding for a three-year project examining the problems facing the parks and the way they are used today.
Associate researcher Dr Katy Jones said: "Sefton was, and still is, the jewel in the crown. It was the most complete of all the parks - although none were ever really finished. continues......
* LIVERPOOL'S first park covered the whole of Toxteth. Although actually an ancient hunting ground, with gamekeepers for the gentry, people throughout the city used it as a common until the 18th century.
* The Adelphi hotel stands on the site of the city's first pleasure gardens, where people paid to walk through the ornamental gardens and concerts were held.
* A scandal rocked one private gardens, now the site of the University of Liverpool, after a resident who did not want to pay copied the key and gave it out to strangers.
